Why I'm Running

I'm running because...we need a state govenment that listens to its citizens and is responsive to their needs.

I am Penny Bernard Schaber. As the Democratic Candidate for Assembly District 57 I am campaigning to represent Appleton and Ward 3 of Little Chute in the State Assembly. It is time for the State Assembly to do the work of the people of Wisconsin. We can grow Wisconsin’s economy and sustain our environment at the same time. We can expect budgets to be passed on time, not 142 days late. We can expect our Representatives to listen and respond directly to our concerns and questions.

Like you, I care about the future we are creating for our children. We are concerned residents of Appleton who are frustrated with the current status of state politics. I think it is time for our voices to be heard. I am running for State Assembly because I want to change things in Madison. I am running to be the Representative for Assembly District 57 because the district needs a strong clear voice. I will be that voice.

As a physical therapist, I know about the problems with our health care system. Affordable and accessible health care is needed now more than ever. As your Representative I will take the initiative to make this happen.

I understand the need to keep existing jobs and to attract jobs that pay a living wage if we want our families to be able to live and raise their children in Wisconsin. I will work hard to support Wisconsin families.

I have worked in the education field. I understand the importance of quality schools that prepare our children for tomorrow's careers. I support Governor Doyle’s Wisconsin Covenant.

We deserve fairness in property taxes with the state providing appropriate shared revenues. The State Legislature should start a review of the tax system in Wisconsin.

As an involved citizen, I know we need to clean up our campaign financing system. The State Legislature passed ethics reform in early 2007 but did not include much needed campaign finance reform. I support campaign finance reform.

We deserve clean air and water. The state regulations that protect us from pollution have been cut and no longer provide the protection they once did. I have worked for many years to improve our quality of life in the Fox Valley and will continue to lead this fight.

For 22 years I have had the pleasure of watching Appleton grow and prosper. Now I am eager to take on the responsibility of representing Appleton in state government. I will be your voice in the State Assembly.

I welcome your input and interest in my campaign. I will listen and respond to your input. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
Penny
